Settings and accessibility
Choose Settings at the top of any page. Choose Save settings after changing anything.
(Command: user.setPrefs.)
Accessibility
- Text size: Normal, Large (125%) or Larger (150%).
- High contrast colours: white and yellow on black.
- Reduce motion: turns off animations.
Your browser's own zoom, high-contrast and reduced-motion settings also work.
Example: Grandpa Yusuf helps his grandson with homework on a tablet: he chooses Larger (150%) text and High contrast colours, and SchoolStack remembers it for his account on every device.
Daily summary email
Email me a daily summary (on unless you turn it off): once a day, at 7:00 (the school's time),
you get one email with what's new in your classes since the last one. Students: new work,
work returned to you (with the grade), and work due tomorrow that you haven't turned in.
Teachers: work students turned in. Each line links to the work. Nothing is sent on a day with
no news, and only when the server sends email. Teachers choose what each class puts in it (see the
teachers' guide, "Class settings"). (Command: user.setPrefs; email.preview shows what your
next summary says so far.)
Example: Mona gets her summary at 7:00: "Physics – New work: Lab report (due 3 Oct, 12:00)" and "Due tomorrow, not turned in yet: Lab report". She taps the link and opens the Lab report.
Time zone
Show and type times in sets the time zone for due dates, schedules and every time you see. Pick the city nearest you that shares your clock, or "The school's time zone" to use the school's (set by the person who runs the server). Times are stored exactly, so people in different time zones each see the right local time.
Example: Sara's school is in Riyadh, but she is at a conference in Cairo: she picks Africa/Cairo so due times show in her local time. Her students still see them in Riyadh time.
Using a keyboard or a screen reader
- Every page starts with a Skip to main content link, then the main links and the class tabs.
- Every page has one main heading; sections have headings in order, so you can move by heading.
- Every field has a visible label; hints are read with the field.
- Messages after an action ("Turned in.", or what went wrong) are announced.
- Status is always written in words, never shown only by colour.
- Sections that open and close (such as Add a link or file or Edit assignment) open with Enter or Space.
- Everything works without JavaScript.
Example: Mona uses a screen reader. She presses Tab once to reach "Skip to main content", then jumps between headings to find "Your work" and the Turn in button.
